According to Elaine Aron, who is the world’s leading expert on highly sensitive people (or HSPs), approximately 15-20% of the population possess the gift of sensitivity. It can be very difficult to manage in this harsh and chaotic world, but it truly is a gift. The world needs highly sensitive people to recognize their trait and spread their innate compassion and empathy for others.
I am a highly sensitive person. I have not always been comfortable with my gift. In fact, I spent years trying to deny it and cover it up. Now, though, I’m proud to be sensitive, and I would like to use this blog to spread awareness of the gifts of sensitivity.
Do you think you may be an HSP? Here are some clues:
*You are overwhelmed by crowds, bright lights, loud noises, or strong smells.
*You avoid the news and violent movies and TV shows.
*People often say to you “Toughen up” or “Don’t be so sensitive.”
*You often take on other people’s emotions, feeling sad or angry when other people are sad or angry.
*You are deeply moved by the arts, music, and film.
